Apple offers free repair of MacBook Air 2018 units after identifying issues with the main logic board. The problem is diagnosed as “issues with power” and allegedly affects a “very small number” of MacBook Air models, 9to5Mac reports referring to an internal document.
The company is willing to replace the main logic board at no cost to customers and may soon announce a repair program or list it on its Exchange and Repair Extension Programmes list. However, Apple may refrain from announcing the repair program as in some cases the company doesn’t list programs that only affect a small number of devices. “It’s not clear what criteria it uses to decide to publicly announce a repair or recall program,” 9ro5Mac says.
The customers with affected machines will have up to four years from the original purchase date to request a repair. Those who purchased Retina, 13-inch, MacBook Air 2018 models with certain serial numbers, will receive emails. Otherwise, customers can take their machines to Apple Stores and get their devices checked.
Just a couple of days ago, on June 20, 2019, Apple determined that the battery may overheat in older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units. The malfunctioning of the batteries could cause fire. The company decided to replace the affected batteries free of charge and announced it on its Exchange and Repair Extension Programmes list.
In the course of the first half of 2019, Apple has announced 2 recall programs and 2 service programs, including 15-inch MacBook Pro Battery Recall Program, Keyboard Service Program for MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro, 13-inch MacBook Pro Display Backlight Service Program and Apple Three-Prong AC Wall Plug Adapter Recall Program.
While keeping its unquestionable leading role in the industry of consumer electronics, computer software, and online services, the company may need to reconsider how it is going to face the competition coming from cheaper but still reliable products.
