Amazon is Offering Free Delivery in the US Because It’s Nearly Christmas!

Christmas is at the doors! There is no Christmas without Christmas gifts. And Amazon is making its gift to its buyers already! All customers of Amazon in the U.S. can enjoy free shipping with no minimum purchase order. The Prime members of the company in the U.S. can also enjoy Free Same-Day Delivery on more than three million eligible items, the world largest retails company says in a press release of November 5. The promotion starts on the same day and will last for a limited time.

“This holiday, customers can enjoy free shipping with no minimum purchase amount on orders that will arrive in time for Christmas, including items from Amazon’s expertly curated Gift Guides across electronics, fashion, home, and toys,” said Senior Vice President of North American Retail at the retail company Doug Herrington. “With hundreds of millions of items available for free shipping to all Amazon customers and more than three million items available with Prime FREE Same-Day Delivery, customers can enjoy the largest selection of items that are fast and free.”

Response to Competitors or Customer Obsession?

The company reportedly announced its commitment to customer obsession rather than competitor focus. As CEO of the world largest internet retailer Jeff Bezos said, “If you’re competitor-focused and you’re already the leader, then where does your energy come from? Obsessing over competitors takes the energy off your own work and gives it to someone else.”

However, this promotion seems to be a response to the sales of rival Walmart and shopping festival Black Friday and Cyber Monday that are coming later this month. It also looks like the company is trying to compete with Target which announced free two-day shipping with no minimum spend.

About Amazon

Amazon is the largest internet retailer in the world in terms of revenue and market capitalization. It is the second largest after Alibaba Group in terms of total sales. Jeff Bezos founded the company on July 5, 1994, who is an American technology entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist. In 2017 he was announced the world’s wealthiest person with a net worth just over $90 billion. In 2018, he was already the “wealthiest person in modern history” after his net worth increased to $150 billion in July 2018.

(Amazon is also selling real-life Christmas trees this year, seems cool!)
